As Nexus 7 is coming close to broader availability, one of the tablet's early owners was able to make an interesting find on the tablet - a magnetic smart cover sensor.

According to the Android Police blog, as spotted by one of their readers, Nexus 7 tablet features an Apple iPad like smart cover sensor on the tablet, which can be used to make tablet go in sleep mode when cover is placed on it.

The implementation is very similar to what we have seen in Apple iPad's Smart Covers, but Google or Asus are yet to officially announce anything in this regard. Even the launch event did not have any mention of this feature.

The press release issued by Asus did have some details about the "Smart Covers" but it failed to highlight this feature and we are yet to get a confirmation on whether these so-called "Smart Covers" are supported.
