Alarms have been a daily presence in our lives for a while now, and we can easily customize alarms on our phones and smartwatches, setting multiple times, snoozing, and adjusting as we like. But did you know the first alarm clock, invented by Levi Hutchins in 1787, was designed to ring at only one specific time? And that time was 4 AM! Hutchins needed to wake up early for work, and back then, clocks weren't advanced enough to set different times. While the earliest alarm didn't offer any flexibility, and perhaps didn't help Hutchins get enough sleep, it did ensure he woke up on time.
