Google has reportedly started rolling out an Android Wear (4.4W.1) update to smartwatches running its Android Wear OS, what appears to be the first of the upcoming updates announced last week. At present the three smartwatches running Android Wear - Moto 360, G Watch and Gear live - are reportedly receiving the update.

On Tuesday, the Android Police reported that Motorola's Moto 360, LG's G Watch, and Samsung's Gear Live has currently receiving an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android Wear version 4.4W.1. The report also included the update firmware images for all three smartwatches with build number (varies with devices) KGW42N and KGW42Q.

Although the report didn't include the complete changelog for Moto 360 and G Watch, it details some changes for the Samsung Gear Live. The Android Wear 4.4W.1 update for Gear Live includes adjustments to the watch interface for Google Maps Navigation that will reportedly require the latest version of Google Maps installed on the paired smartphone and will suggest alternate destinations by Google that can be scrolled to make a selection.

The Gear Live's Android Wear update also includes updated built-in alarm function, with which users will be able to set alarms for one or more days of the week by tapping on 'edit' after the 'Ok Google' voice command.

On Friday, Google had announced that the upcoming Android Wear updates will bring offline music playback and GPS support to Android Wear-powered smartwatches. The official Google blog post noted, "Coming throughout the rest of this year, we're making some updates to Wear that will help you get even more out of your watch-and the rest of your life, too... You'll be able to listen to music stored on your watch via Bluetooth headphones. And if your watch includes a GPS sensor, you can track your distance and speed too."

Another upcoming update will enable downloadable watch faces for customisation. The blog post said, "Developers will soon be working on watch faces, making them available on Google Play."
