  • Apple announced earlier this year that Prime Video was coming to Apple TV
  • It has been more than four months but Prime Video is yet to arrive
  • According to an alleged employee, that could change as soon as October 26

Amazon plans to release Prime Video app for Apple TV on October 26, according to a user on Reddit who claims to be an engineer at Amazon. It has yet to be confirmed that the Reddit user indeed works at Amazon and the information he has shared is accurate.

In June earlier this year, Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook said Amazon was coming to the TV app on Apple TV "later this year" with Amazon Prime Video. Prior to the announcement, Prime Video was exclusively available on select TV models and via Amazon's own Fire TV Stick.

"Prime Video provides a wealth of great content, thousands of TV shows and movies, and some great original content like Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, Man in the High Castle and so much more. We are so pleased to welcome Amazon to Apple TV," Cook said at the time.

But it has been months since the announcement and Prime Video app is still nowhere to be found. According to a user on Reddit, who goes by alias "AmazonVideoEngineer", the company is on track to release Prime Video app for Apple TV on October 26.

In another post two weeks ago, the same user had noted that Amazon long finished building the app, but "a lot of politics" between the two companies had been the reason for the delay.

The two companies have shared an interesting past. Two years ago, Amazon stopped selling Apple TV (as well as Google's Chromecast) on its e-commerce platform in a move that it said would help avoid "confusion" among customers.

According to estimates from analytics firms, Amazon Prime Video has a larger catalogue than Netflix does. The absence of Prime Video on Apple TV so far has been one of the top complaints from customers.
