WhatsApp, the popular mobile messaging service, has updated its iPhone app adding ability to archive chats and groups, in addition to bringing a slew of new features to the app.

The updated version (2.11.9) is now available as a free download at App Store and is about 50MB in size. However, users will be charged $0.99 every year after getting one year of free access to the service, similar to how the service is offered on other platforms.

Some of the new features introduced in the new version of WhatsApp for iPhone include the ability to add captions to images and even videos before sharing it with friends; new fast camera access button for clicking and sending photos; support for trimming videos before sharing them; added support for satellite and hybrid map views when sharing a location; new drop and drag pin feature to share precise location; new media auto-download preferences (settings > chat settings > media auto-download); new wallpapers (settings > chat settings > chat wallpapers > wallpaper library); new notification tones, and support for attaching screenshots when reporting problems.

The WhatsApp v2.11.9 update also brings an additional feature of sharing slow-motion videos for the iPhone 5s users only.
