About Batman Movie (1990)

The first instalment of the popular Batman film series, based on DC’s comic series of the same name.

Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) is a billionaire philanthropist who disguises themself as a masked vigilante called Batman and fights crime in Gotham City.

The superhero took to this path after being deeply affected by the murder of his parents in his childhood — in front of him.

However, the city officials aren’t quite sure of his motives — not that Wayne cares for the same.

His biggest enemy comes in the form of an eccentric crime lord who dresses as and calls himself the Joker (Jack Nicholson).

Batman must save the city — as well as his love interest (Kim Basinger) — from the clutches of the notorious Joker.

The hit film couldn’t originally score a studio and took over ten years to reach theatres.

The Oscar-winning film was the first ever to hit $100 million within 10 days of release — the biggest film in Warner Bros.’ history at the time.

Although Keaton remains one of the most popular and celebrated Batmans to date, at the time of release, Batman fans strongly disapproved of him being cast as the iconic superhero.

It is reported that Warner Bros. received over 50,000 fan complaint letters — and the studio had to release a teaser much earlier, to keep the flames from fanning further.
