  • Rockstar Games released another Red Dead teaser
  • This one implies a new game
  • An official announcement could be made soon

Rockstar Games hasn't announced a new game in its Wild West series, Red Dead, but you can expect one soon enough. Following up a teaser for what could be Red Dead Redemption 2, the developer dropped another more obvious hint which should nullify all speculation of a remaster of Red Dead Redemption.

The latest tease is an image containing the silhouettes of what could be seven characters, perhaps the GTA hitmaker plans to put a Wild West spin on The Magnificent Seven? Or maybe it's influenced 1969 Western epic The Wild Bunch, given that the movie's poster has an uncanny resemblance to Rockstar's biggest hint. Either way, it would seem like there's more to it than a cleaner, sharper edition of the adventures of Red Dead Redemption's protagonist John Marston.

Considering that Red Dead Redemption's code was a complete mess after its PS3 and Xbox 360 launch, and the game found its way to the Xbox One via backwards compatibility, combined with Rockstar's most recent tease more or less confirms that this will be a new Red Dead game.

Furthermore, local game store Games The Shop has switched its social media profiles to represent the changes to Rockstar's. While this might be seen as an attempt to capitalise on the hype, Games The Shop is owned by Take-Two's India distributor E-xpress. We won't be surprised if the publisher has looped in its partners to amplify its marketing attempts such as this. Which begs the question, why go through all this effort if it was just a remaster of Red Dead Redemption?

In the past Rockstar Games’ publisher Take-Two claimed it was crucial series. CEO Strauss Zelnick noted Red Dead among the company's "permanent franchises" at the Cowen and Company's Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in 2014.

"It's obvious that GTA is a permanent franchise as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality; it seems quite obvious that Red Dead is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat," he said at the time. The Rockstar Games-developed series has two entries: 2004's Red Dead Revolver and 2010's Red Dead Redemption. The CEO's statement seemed to hint that another Red Dead game is on the way.

Rockstar has been no stranger to announcing games on social media - Twitter in particular, it did something similar with GTA V. Considering that a new game in the Red Dead series was rumoured to be the final game at Sony's E3 2016 conference as well as a slew of reports regarding a possible sequel prior to E3 lend credence to this. More so than a remaster. Nonetheless hopefully we wouldn’t have to wait too long for Rockstar to announce whatever its teasing.
