Highlights
  • The new Overwatch patch brings multiple fixes to the game
  • These include gameplay balances and bug fixes
  • The game will be free to try this weekend

With Blizzard announcing that its multiplayer shooter Overwatch will be free this coming weekend, it also released a patch for the game. Headlining its many additions is Sombra, a hacker class character, the game’s new Arcade mode, and PS4 Pro support. The download size of the patch on the PS4 and Xbox One is around 10GB.

Also there has been some tweaks done to the game’s balance. This has been done to ensure that players don’t end up favouring one specific character or skill. These include a 25 percent increase in costs to use Ultimates — special abilities unique to each hero, bug fixes such as possible navigation errors, and even typos in certain maps like Eichenwalde. You can check out detailed descriptions of each fix as well as developer comments on the official Overwatch forums. The general patch notes are below.

Overwatch Patch notes

  • [PS4] Added PlayStation 4 Pro support
  • Made a number of data format improvements, which should decrease load times and reduce the game’s storage space requirements
  • Made several adjustments to the amount of experience needed to level
  • The amount of experience needed to reach levels 2 through 13 remains unchanged
  • The amount of experience needed to reach levels 14 through 100 has been slightly reduced
  • The amount of experience needed to reach levels after 100 is now constant (20,000 XP) and will no longer reset after each promotion
  • Quick Play matches are now restricted to one of each hero per team
  • Spectating – The number of observer slots in Custom Games has been increased from 6 to 12

For what it’s worth, we found Overwatch to be one of the year’s best games. There are various heroes to choose from, near perfect gameplay, and the promise of extended support and free content, most of which Blizzard has made good on so far.
