  • PlayStation prepaid cards have denominations of Rs. 500 to Rs. 4,500
  • The PS Store has been in India since 2010
  • This follows the availability of PS Plus cards in India

Sony has finally made PlayStation Store prepaid cards available in India. Available in denominations of Rs. 500 to Rs. 4,500, this will allow gamers in the country to purchase PS4, PS3, and PS Vita games and downloadable content via the Indian PS Store without using a credit or debit card. Although present in India since 2010, the PS Store hasn't been the easiest marketplace to buy games from due to most Indian credit and debit cards not working. The availability of PS Store prepaid cards is a viable workaround. In addition to this, select DLC and games such Spider-Man PS4 City Never Sleeps and FIFA 19 complete with its FUT points would be available for purchase as well sources tell Gadgets 360.

At the moment, PlayStation Store prepaid cards seem to be listed on specialist game retailer Games the Shop. Though several offline retail stores have confirmed to Gadgets 360 that they would be getting it as well. We won't be surprised to see the likes of Amazon and Flipkart have them soon enough. Nonetheless, Gadgets 360 has got in touch with Sony India and will update this story if we hear from the company.

This follows Sony India bringing PlayStation Plus memberships into the country.  PS Plus is Sony’s service for the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita that allows for online multiplayer, cloud saves, and access to games each month for a fee. The prepaid cards have two denominations, Rs. 1,869 for three months and Rs. 4,439 for one year. This is inline with the price for PS Plus memberships if purchased digitally via the PS Store.

Official availability of PS Store prepaid cards and PS Plus memberships offline and through other online stores is a welcome move. More so when you consider that the PS Store doesn't work with some Indian debit and credit cards. Sony had shied away from prepaid card options due to taxation concerns in the past.

"At the moment we don't have a release date for PS Plus or PSN top up cards. Frankly speaking its still work we're trying to carry out from a taxation issue," PlayStation India head Robert Fisser told Gadgets 360 last year. "So once something changes in that, where the method of delivery can change, then hopefully we can bring that announcement in and we can do that."

Furthermore, it could give some the impetus to pre-order digitally, particularly for games like FIFA 19. Be it FIFA 16FIFA 17, or FIFA 18, Amazon India - EA's exclusive India retail partner, doesn't have the best track record with parallel imports beating the e-commerce giant to the punch year on year. Hopefully after three years of FIFA delays, this year's game actually shows up on time and if it doesn't, PlayStation prepaid cards are an option for the nation's favourite football game.
