  • Snapdeal is offering its customers free access to SonyLiv for 3 months
  • The announcement comes as Snapdeal cashes in on the festive season
  • SonyLiv offers a large catalogue of movies, shows and TV channels

Snapdeal said on Tuesday that it has partnered with SonyLiv to provide all its customers with a three-month premium access to the streaming service's live feed of TV channels, as well as movies and TV shows at no charge.

As part of the agreement, SonyLiv said the e-commerce company will be promoting the streaming service on its shopping website. "This collaboration is a huge value-add to Snapdeal users, who can now enjoy some of the choicest content available on SonyLIV besides fulfilling their shopping needs," Uday Sodhi, EVP and Head of Digital Business, SonyLIV said in a press statement. A three-month premium membership on SonyLiv costs Rs. 120.

The move comes as both the companies look to boost their presence in the country. SonyLiv is trailing Netflix, Amazon's Prime Video, and Hotstar, while Snapdeal has gone through major strategic changes in the recent months as it attempts to fightback Flipkart, Amazon India, and Paytm Mall. Snapdeal hasn't disclosed how many registered users it has in the recent years, but in 2013, it had boasted of more than 18 million users. Even as its Web traffic has declined over the years, it still receives north of 30 million visits a month, according to web analytics firm SimilarWeb.

SonyLiv offers free access to some of its catalog including some TV shows from Sony Network, and original Web series, and live stream of two channels - Sony WAH and Chardikla Time TV. The free version of SonyLiv is ad-supported, so you are required to sit through ads at intervals when you consume content. The premium version of the app offers access to movies and shows as well as nine TV channels including Sony BBC Earth, Sony Max, and Sony Sab. Some of these channels are available in HD resolution.

It wasn't immediately clear if Snapdeal users will have to place an order to avail the SonyLiv membership. It was also not clear how soon users could avail the SonyLiv membership. At the time of writing, the discount was not live on the website or its app. We have reached to Snapdeal for more details.
