A new report has rubbished the rumours from last month that signalled Apple would introduce its rumoured 12-inch Macbook Air with Retina display at the company's upcoming October 16 event.

Sources close to Apple's plans have told Re/code that the Cupertino firm may have a new Macbook Air with Retina display in the pipeline but it will not reveal the device in its October 16 event. The company is reportedly currently "re-imagining" its ultralight laptops.

The report goes in-line with that of Wall Street Journal (via 9to5 Mac), which last week mentioned that the production of 12-inch Retina Macbook Air laptops won't go on floors until December this year. The laptops may arrive in 2015, probably alongside the release of Apple Watch and the rumoured 12-inch iPad Air Pro.

Previous rumours hinted the anticipated 12-inch Retina Macbook Air laptop would flaunt a thinner design than its current version. The sleek design however, might require it to sacrifice standard USB ports and instead use the reversible Type-C USB port that was announced last month by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group. The new laptop is also rumoured to feature the the USB Alternate Mode which could allow high-quality audio and video to be delivered over USB cables.

Furthermore, the Cupertino firm is said to be considering dispensing with the MagSafe charging port that it uses on all current MacBook models, and introduce a new method to charge the device; a decision yet to be finalised.

The rumoured 12-inch MacBook Air, besides being said to be completely fanless and much thinner than the current MacBook Air, will most likely be powered by Intel's Core M Processor based on the fifth-generation Broadwell architecture - which can run fast and cool without a fan.

The October 16 event might revolve around the launch of new iPad models along with a new iMac with Retina display and the release of OS X Yosemite.
