Dell Launches New 2-in-1 Laptops, Inspiron Chromebook, and Monitors at IFA 2018

Dell's new Inspiron 7000 2-in 1s come in 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch variants.

Ahead of IFA 2018, Dell on Wednesday launched a slew of devices expanding its Inspiron, XPS, and Vostro portfolio. It has also launched its first Inspiron Chromebook, a new Dell 27 USB-C Ultrathin Monitor, and a line of SE monitors for catering to everyday computing needs. While some products are made available immediately, some may not see the light of the day till January next year. The devices launched include the Inspiron 7000 2-in-1s, Inspiron 5000 2-in-1s, a new Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1, new XP13 refreshed series, Vostro 14 and 15 5000 laptops, Dell 27 USB-C Ultrathin Monitor, and a new line of SE Monitors.

Starting with the Inspiron 7000 2-in 1s, these come in 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch variants, and are powered by Intel 8th Generation U Series processors with up to 16GB of RAM, up to 4K UHD screens, and up to Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics card and Intel Optane Memory (15-inch and 17-inch variants). It is touted to sport a sleek design, aluminium exterior, and a three-sided narrow border that's to its 2.7mm miniaturised webcam. It has hidden vents for thermal flow, and the 4-element lens webcam offers better low-light imaging with Temporal Noise Reduction. It comes with a fingerprint reader, USB Type-C port, Active Pen support, and is going to get Alexa support by Autumn this year. The Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1s will be available on October 2 in US and Canada starting at $879.99 (13-inch, roughly Rs. 62,000), $849.99 (15-inch, roughly Rs. 59,000) and $1,099.99 (17-inch, roughly Rs. 77,400). There is a 15-inch Abyss Black variant with UHD screen priced at $1,249.99 (roughly Rs.88,000) as well.

Coming to the 14-inch Inspiron 5000 2-in-1, this new offering comes in two versions - model numbers 5481 and 5482. Both the versions provide Intel 8th Generation U Series processors. The 5482 model comes with an additional USB Type-C port and Nvidia GeForce MX130 graphics card. The 5481 model has a full-size HDMI port, SD card reader, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, and one USB 2.0 port. It also comes with the option of Windows 10 in S mode in select regions. It sports the same thermal routing and narrow borders as the Insipron 7000 series. The Dell Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 5481 and 5482 will be available on October 2 in North America starting at $459.99 (roughly Rs. 32,300) and $599.99 (roughly Rs. 42,200) respectively .

Dell has also announced the 14-inch Inspiron Chromebook 2-in-1, its first ever premium Chromebook in the Inspiron line-up. It sports a full-HD IPS display, aluminium exterior, narrow bezels, and touts up to 15 hours of battery life. The Chromebook comes with Google Play support, Intel 8th Generation i3-8130U CPU, up to 128GB storage, and runs on Chrome OS. It sports a 360 degree hinge as is the case with all 2-in-1s listed above. It supports USB Type-C port, and a backlit keyboard as well. The Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14-inch 2-in-1 will be available on October 23 in North America starting at $599 (roughly Rs. 42,200).

The Dell XPS 13 and the Developer Edition have been refreshed with Intel 8th Generation Core i3 processor, and the Developer Edition is now available with Ubuntu Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (long-term support), an update that provides support for up to five years. The standard XPS 13 also offers Dynamic Power Mode with up to 15 hours of battery life and a UltraSharp QHD+ InfinityEdge touch display. The Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition is available now in the US starting at $949.99 (roughly Rs. 66,900), and availability in Europe and Canada is expected to be soon. The XPS 13 with Core i3 will be available August 28 in US starting at $899.99 (roughly Rs. 63,400). The XPS 13 2-in-1 with Intel 8th Generation processors will be available in the US from September 11 starting at $999.99 (roughly Rs. 70,400).

Dell has also expanded its Vostro line with new Vostro 14 5000 and Vostro 15 5000 laptops. The laptops include 8th Generation Intel Core processors, up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, Nvidia GeForce MX130 graphics, optional Intel Optane memory, USB Type-C port, and an optional Single-Sign-On fingerprint reader. The laptops also offer hardware TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0, which provides commercial-grade protection and storage for encryption keys to verify a device, and Bitlocker to configure security settings. The Dell Vostro 14 and 15 5000 laptops are priced starting at $499.99 (roughly Rs. 35,200) and will be available in North America from November 9 and January 2 respectively.

As mentioned, Dell has also unveiled the 27-inch USB-C Ultrathin Monitor with up to 600 nits peak brightness, a premium HDR monitor with VESA-certified DisplayHDR 600, and integrated with Corning Iris Glass light-guide plate (LGP) technology. It supports a USB Type-C connector, and is just 5.5mm thin. It sports an InfinityEdge design, and a Silver Satin finish. It is already available in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, and will be available from September 20 in North America starting at $549.99 (roughly Rs. 38,700).

There's also a new line of Dell SE Monitors with FHD resolution (SE2219H, SE2419H and SE2719H) introduced. It comes in three display sizes - 21.5-inch, 23.8-inch and 27-inch - and is built with an IPS panel. Other features include flicker-free tech, low-haze screen atop a compact, and a space-saving base. The Dell 21.5-inch, 23.8-inch and 27-inch SE Monitors will be available September 25 in North America, Asia, Australia, Europe and Africa, starting at $169.99 (roughly Rs. 11,900), $199.99 (roughly Rs. 14,000) and $249.99 (roughly Rs. 17,500) respectively.
