Lava eyes sub-Rs. 10,000 Android smartphones segment with new Iris series

Indian mobile manufacturer Lava now seems to eyeing the dual-SIM sub-Rs.10,000 Android segment and has announced its plans to launch a slew of smartphone under the brand name of Iris to cater to this segment.

When asked what will be set apart this 'Iris' range, Lava shared that the smartphones in this series will offer better features such as fast processor, better battery, bigger screens, and dual-SIM connectivity. All devices in the Iris series will range between Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000.

The first two devices that Lava wants to introduce under this brand include Lava Iris N320 and Lava Iris N350. Both these smartphones are expected to be available within this month and five new smartphone will join them till January. Furthermore, company plans to add five more smartphones to this portfolio between January to March 2013.

Though Lava is not willing to give exact details about its forthcoming smartphones but it has indicated that there will be launching a 4.3-inch and another 5-inch smartphone shortly. All the smartphones being launched by Lava under this series will have a processor that's at least 1GHz or faster.

Lava has also shared that the one of the first smartphone to hit the market under the Iris series with Lava Iris N350. Lava Iris N350 will sport a 3.5-inch touchscreen and packs in a 1GHz processor. It runs on Android 2.3.6 and a 1300 mAh battery. For connectivity it supports EDGE/ GPRS/ Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is a 2-megapixel rear camera and VGA front camera. Lava N350 comes pre-loaded with "Fusion" a music aggregator application. This application is developed by Lava itself and helps in integrating offline and online music content on this smartphone.

Lava has not yet announced the price or availability of Lava Iris N350 but it is already available through the deal site Snapdeal.com for Rs. 4,399.

Lava had made a big splash earlier this year, with the launch of first smartphone powered by Intel processor - smartphone Xolo X900. Lava Xolo X900 runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich and comes with 4.03-inch 1024x600p display, and an Intel Z2460 single-core chip clocked at 1.6GHz.
