With everything about the next LG flagship phone being known way before its designated launch date, the South Korean giant has officially announced that it would be known as the LG G2.

Interestingly, it appears that LG has gotten rid of the Optimus branding, which was a part of its previous phones including of the G2's predecessor, the Optimus G and LG's full-HD 5.5-inch phablet, the Optimus G Pro.

It said that future smartphones in the same series will carry only the G name while the branding of mobile devices that have already been introduced will continue unchanged.

"Our vision is to make LG's newest G devices synonymous with excellence, raising the bar even further for the ultimate in user experience," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The new G2 will build upon the excellent reputation established by previous G Series products."

LG also announced that all its future smartphones with a 4:3 display will be rebranded as 'Vu'.

The company mentioned that all of its smartphones will feature next generation core technologies and familiar UX and that each series would highlight a different facet of the company's product expertise.

LG is rumoured to launch the LG G2 smartphone in an event scheduled for August 7, this year. The phone has been leaked in several videos and pictures. It's expected to be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM, sporting a 5.2-inch full-HD display with almost no bezel. It's likely to sport a 13-megapixel rear camera. The phone's sleep and volume keys will be located on the back panel beneath the camera and the front panel will not feature a physical home button and capacitive touch buttons, and instead LG will use on-screen controls similar to stock Android.
