Google has confirmed the existence of the anticipated Motorola Droid Maxx 2 smartphone for Verizon Wireless. The handset was seen listed in the search giant's Chromecast "Optimized devices for Android Screen casting" page under the 'Supported Android devices' section.

The page has since been edited to remove the reference, and had additionally mentioned that the Droid Maxx 2 smartphone is just a Verizon-branded Moto X Play. We are yet to see the official launch of the smartphone. The Chromecast support page now has that mention removed, but not before a screenshot could be grabbed (via 9to5Google).

The smartphone is powered by a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

The highlight of the Moto X Play is its 21-megapixel rear camera which comes with f/2.0 aperture and CCT (Colour Correlated Temperature) flash with dual-LED modules. The rear camera features Phase Detect Auto-Focus (PDAF) and can record 1080p HD video at 30fps. Some of the other camera features include tap anywhere to capture; slow motion video support; video stabilisation; 4X digital zoom; burst mode; night mode; auto HDR; Panorama, and drag to focus and exposure. There is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera also on board. It is backed by a 3630mAh battery.

Verizon Wireless and Google launched their first Droid-branded smartphone back in 2009, followed by the launch of Motorola Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini in 2013.
