  • Comeback of the Moto Razr will be "realized very soon"
  • Even foldable smartphones from Motorola might sport the Razr branding

Lenovo-owned Motorola might be looking at the return of its legendary/ GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) handset - the Moto Razr. At least that is what Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing hinted at a press meeting during Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona. He stated that customers should not rule out the possibility of the Moto Razr's comeback, and that the phone maker might be working on making it a reality soon. He also hinted towards Motorola's focus on foldable smartphone technology in the coming months.

In a response to TechRadar's query around the comeback of the retro Moto Razr phone design, CEO Yang Yuanqing commented, "So hopefully what you just described will be developed or realised very soon." This means we might just see the return of the handset in 2018 itself. This statement could also be seen as a strategy to take on HMD Global's Nokia brand that has brought phones like the Nokia 3310, and much more recently the Nokia 8810, back from the dead. Adding 4G connectivity to the successful formula means a clutter-free design for users who like it that way.

In another comment, Yuanqing said, "With the new technology, particularly foldable screens, I think you will see more and more innovation on our smartphone design." However vague that statement might seem, it means that Motorola is looking to develop foldable smartphones. Samsung recently confirmed that it will launch foldable smartphones (Galaxy X?) before the end of 2018. The TechRadar reports further hints that if indeed a Motorola foldable smartphone is in the works, the new smartphone series could sport the Razr branding to cash in on some good old nostalgia.

However close we might be to witnessing the comeback of Motorola's Moto Razr phone, in whatever form possible, just the idea of it sounds exciting in the times of smartphones with massive displays and thousands of "productivity" apps.
