Soon after the first-generation Moto X started receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop update in select markets, Motorola has started the Android 5.1 Lollipop update rollout for its Moto X (Gen 2) handset.

Motorola's David Schuster, Senior Director of Software Product Management, last week had confirmed that Motorola Moto X and Moto X (Gen 2) entered soak test in several markets. Adding further, Schuster had noted that "If all goes well we would expect full deployments to start next week."

Now, Motorola in a statement (via 9to5google) has announced the update for Moto X (Gen 2) and said, "We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto X (2nd Gen.) by Motorola. This update brings Android 5.1 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements. Android 5.1 Lollipop improves stability and provides better control over notifications."

Users can manually check for the new update by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates on their Moto X (Gen 2). Considering Motorola has just pushed the Android 5.1 update to the Moto X (Gen 2), we can expect it to take some time to reach the handset worldwide. To recall, Motorola had listed the change log for the Android 5.1 update for the Moto X (Gen 2) back in March; though the refreshed change log has been tweaked.

As per the new change log, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto X (Gen 2) handset will let users block interruptions until the next alarm, alter notification volume controls while media is playing, dismiss a head-up notification and swipe it up to remove it from the screen. Besides a new pull-down menu for quickly selecting different Wi-Fi access points or paired Bluetooth devices, post the update, Moto X (Gen 2) users would also be able to hide conditional setting tiles in case they are using features like 'Invert Colours' or 'Hotspot'. Improvements in ART (Android Run Time), which will result in faster opening of apps, are also included.

Post the update, if the Moto X (Gen 2) is lost or stolen, it will stay locked until you sign in with your Google account, even if someone resets it to factory settings. A number of other bug fixes included in the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto X (Gen 2) deal with handset's Wi-Fi, Chrome browser crashes, Bluetooth discovery, general stability improvements, and more.
