Panasonic on Wednesday launched new variants of its Eluga I2 smartphone with bumped up memory as well as storage and a better front-facing camera. The Panasonic Eluga I2 will now be available in 2GB of RAM and 3GB of RAM options priced at Rs. 7,990 and Rs. 8,990 respectively.

Apart from the RAM, the new Eluga I2 variants have also received an upgraded front camera. The 2-megapixel front camera earlier seen on the Eluga I2 smartphone has been replaced by the 5-megapixel camera. The smartphone is also receiving VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support. To recall, the Eluga I2 launched last year didn't support 4G. The new models will be available with free protective screen guard worth Rs. 399.

The company adds that the Panasonic Eluga I2 also gets inbuilt storage bump. Both new variants of the Eluga I2 pack 16GB of storage which is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). Rest of the specifications of the Eluga I2 are same.

The Panasonic Eluga I2 features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display, and is powered by a 1GHz quad-core processor. It houses an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash.

Connectivity options on the Eluga I2 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth apart from 4G. The handset features an ambient light sensor, an accelerometer, and a proximity sensor. Sized at 144.2x71.2x8.8mm, the smartphone is backed by a 2000mAh battery and weighs 135 grams. In addition, the handset comes with support for 21 regional languages and will be available in Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, and Metallic Grey colour variants.

Commenting on the launch, Pankaj Rana, Business Head, Mobility Division, Panasonic India, said, "With the launch of Eluga I2 product variants, we are strengthening our product line up for the distribution channel that we have created for TIER I/II/III towns, covering 300 districts of India, served by 254 regional distributors and 15000 retailers. We are confident that the phone will be very well received by tech-savvy youth customers, with its high performance features and competitive pricing."
