Redmi Note 7 is set to launch in India pretty soon. Redmi Note 7 price starts at CNY 999

Redmi Note 7 sales have crossed one million units, Redmi CEO Lu Weibing announced on Weibo on Tuesday. The Redmi Note 7, of course, is the first smartphone under the new Redmi by Xiaomi brand, and was unveiled last month. The smartphone went on sale the very next week in China, and the figure announced by Weibing is said to have been achieved after three weeks of sales. The Redmi Note 7 is currently only available in China, but is hotly anticipated to arrive in India soon, something the company has already teased. The phone features a 6.3-inch full-HD+ screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, and a 4,000mAh battery.

In a post on Weibo on Tuesday, Weibing said Redmi has managed to sell 1 million Redmi Note 7 units in China - the only country where the smartphone is currently available. This feat was achieved in the three weeks since its launch on January 10. As we mentioned, the smartphone went on sale the next week in China, on January 15. After it had sold out in the first sale, Redmi said it expects to sell 1 million units of the smartphone in January itself. It appears Redmi didn't achieve that feat within that timeline, but managed it within a couple of more weeks.

To recall, the Redmi Note 7 was launched in three variants, starting at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,300) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage option, going up to CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs. 12,400) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option, and CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs. 14,500) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage option. A 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is also in the works, the company revealed a few days later.

Xiaomi India head, Manu Kumar Jain, late last month teased the launch of the Redmi Note 7 in India. At the time however, he did not provide a timeline. In an interview with Gadgets 360, Jain said he believed the Redmi Note 7 would be a "game-changer device" when launched in India. The biggest highlight of the phone is its 48-megapixel rear camera, as well as its waterdrop-shaped notch.

The USP of the Redmi Note 7 is its 48-megapixel Samsung GM1 sensor that sits on the dual rear camera setup, along with an f/1.8 aperture and another 5-megapixel sensor. The Redmi Note 7 also comes as the first model of the 'Redmi by Xiaomi' sub-brand.

The dual-SIM (Nano) Redmi Note 7 sports a 6.3-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) LTPS display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and 2.5D curved glass protection. It is powered by the 2.2GHz Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC paired with Adreno 512 graphics, and 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB RAM options. Internal storage is at 32GB and 64GB options with the option to expand further using a microSD card slot (up to 256GB).

At the time unveiling the Redmi Note 7, Xiaomi also teased the launch of the Redmi Note 7 Pro that is set to come with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor at the back. The smartphone is rumoured to come under the Redmi by Xiaomi sub-brand next month - sometime around the Chinese New Year.

Unlike the Redmi Note 7 that has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, the Redmi Note 7 Pro is rumoured to come with the all-new Snapdragon 675 SoC. The smartphone is also speculated to carry a price tag of CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 15,700).
