While the Internet is buzzing with what the 'M' in Android M would stand for when it launches, Samsung has given some details on the features the upcoming OS would be bringing to Galaxy devices. The features included in the OS cover device management solutions, better fingerprint access integration and more.

Most of the key Android M features Google detailed at its I/O conference earlier this year were mentioned by Samsung in its blog post. As per the South Korean tech firm, the eligible Galaxy line of devices would be receiving features such as granular app permissions, in case users don't want an app to use all forms of access on the device.

Android M would be bringing a new 'Memory' tab that would offer users the information as to which apps are using the most memory on the handset and how frequently they are running. Also, quick fingerprint access would be present for users, not only to lock/unlock handsets, but also to approve app purchases on Google Play.

Auto backup is another feature the Galaxy devices would include. The feature is for those who are worried about losing their data while switching or formatting their handsets. Auto backup would backup the app user data and settings on the user's Google Drive account, up to 25MB per app.

Samsung also promises better battery life with Android M, saying Galaxy users would be able to enjoy longer battery life due to better battery management tools, specially when the smartphone is on standby mode. In the standby mode, Android M would activate a feature called Doze Mode that cuts down the background process to minimise battery consumption.

Samsung has not not yet detailed as to which of its handsets would be receiving the Android M update. However, the obvious devices that are likely to receive the update include Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6 Duos, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 4 Duos, and Galaxy Note Edge.

It is worth mentioning that Sony has already made the Android M Developer Preview available for select Sony Xperia handsets. Nexus devices have also received the preview. HTC has separately announced the HTC One M9 and One M9+ will receive the Android M update.
