  • The Galaxy S8+ said to be preferred by customers in the US
  • The 6GB RAM variant enjoying huge demand in home country

Samsung is reported to have claimed pre-orders for its latest flagship smartphone Galaxy S8 are proving to be even more popular than Galaxy S7 in the US. Interestingly, the company has also revealed that more consumers are opting to choose the larger screen variant, i.e. Galaxy S8+, over the Galaxy S8. Notably, the pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have broken all records in their home country - South Korea - as more than 550,000 units of the phones were booked in just two days.

The South Korean company has said in an emailed statement to CNBC that the Galaxy S8 is already seeing a "double digit growth", meaning 10 percent at the least, over last year in terms of pre-orders in the US. Apart from this, the company also said, "The majority of consumers have been selecting the Galaxy S8+."

These revelations by the company depict many things. Firstly, it shows that people have moved on from the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, where the company had to recall the devices as several cases of the phone catching fire were reported. The demand shows that people are no longer concerned about the safety issues that plagued the earlier flagship device.

Further, the preference for the Galaxy S8+ shows that the void created due to Galaxy Note 7 recall might boost the sales for the larger screen variant of the flagship smartphone. As Apple has also seen improvement in sales of iPhone 7 Plus variant, the competition between the heavyweights might eventually become all about the larger screen variants.

Moving on to the pre-orders in home country, the new flagship smartphones have registered five times the orders for Galaxy S7 and nearly three times the orders for Galaxy Note 7, as per a South Korean report (via ZDNet). Due to the pent-up demand for Galaxy Note 7, the ratio of orders for both smartphones seems to be even, against the usual trend of regular size witnessing more demand, as per the report. Citing a Samsung official, the report says that the 6GB/128GB variant of the phone has been enjoying a high demand.

Samsung will be making its smartphones available across 3,000 stores in South Korea and the pre-orders will end on April 17.

When a device has to follow-up a smartphone as successful as Galaxy S7, things can easily get tricky. However, from early looks, it seems like Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are going to sell even better than one of company's best smartphone to date.
