Sony on Friday has started rolling-out Android 4.4 KitKat updates for its Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual smartphones. Sony had launched both these smartphones with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean earlier this year in March.

The company made the announcement via its blog, along with the complete changelog that the update will include for the Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual, apart from the platform optimisations that Android 4.4 KiKat offers over Jelly Bean.

First up, Sony has put in a tweaked Status Bar as well as Quick Settings, apart from a new PlayStation 4-inspired user interface with a sleeker launch animation and live wallpaper across the lock and home screens.

Just like the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, the option to move apps from internal memory to SD card has been included in the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual.

Sony says the Android 4.4 KitKat update will upgrade the native app portfolio (including Messaging, Smart Connect, TrackID, Sony Select, Battery Stamina Mode, Walkman, and more) to their latest versions. Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual users will also get access to Xperia Themes and downloadable UI packs from Sony Select.

Sony has also noted that devices next in-line for the Android 4.4 KitKat update are the Sony Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual (Review | Pictures).

Notably, the Sony Xperia E1 is a single SIM supporting device, while the Xperia E1 Dual is the dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) variant, but both models otherwise come with identical specifications. The Sony Xperia E1 (and Xperia E1 Dual) features a 4-inch WVGA display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels; a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 (MSM8210) processor; 512MB of RAM; 4GB of inbuilt storage with expandable storage support up to 32GB; a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 1700mAh battery.
