Xiaomi's 2014 flagship, the Mi 4, went up for its first flash sale on Flipkart in India at 2pm IST on Tuesday, and this time it took 15 seconds for 25,000 units to be listed as 'out of stock'. Xiaomi's Vice President of International Operations, Hugo Barra, in a tweet announced the news.

Earlier on Tuesday, Xiaomi's India Head Manu Kumar Jain in a tweet confirmed the number of units going on sale in the first flash sale of the Xiaomi Mi 4. Manu also revealed that Flipkart received 350,000 registrations for the first flash sale on Tuesday.

The next sale on Tuesday is for the Redmi Note 4G and it will start at 5pm IST for registered users via Flipkart. The company has already revealed that 40,000 Redmi Note 4G units will be up for sale in the flash sale.

Going by Xiaomi's standards, the first flash sale of the Mi 4 (Review | Pictures) was not as impressive as other first flash sales of other handsets namely Mi 3, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note, and Redmi Note 4G. One of the biggest possible reasons for the consumer response to the first flash sale of the Mi 4 might be the announcement that came on Monday about the price and availability of the 64GB variant of the Mi 4 smartphone in India, apart from of course, the relatively high price of the handset compared to other Xiaomi offerings. Tuesday also saw the first open sale of the OnePlus One in India, which may have drawn some of the potential buyers.

The 64GB variant has been priced at Rs. 4,000 more than its 16GB counterpart, at Rs. 23,999, and will be made available on February 24.

Xiaomi's pricing of the 64GB variant at Rs. 23,999 is also questionable, essentially providing a larger 64GB flash memory chip instead of the 16GB chip for Rs. 4,000 more - quite a premium for just 48GB of ubiquitous storage. This also prices the smartphone significantly higher than the OnePlus One, a strange move considering the smartphones are nearly equal in terms of specifications.
