An excellent laptop for gaming, music, video editing and photography. Lightweight, powerful and the keyboard colors are an added bonus.

Runs anything I tell it to at Ultra Graphics. Highly recommended. 1070 8GB with 16GB RAM 4K MODEL-GTA V-No Man's Sky-Beam.Ng-Crysis-Red Faction: GeurillaDefinitely worth the money. RGB keyboard is amazing and the 4K Graphics are insane. it's like having a PS4 and Xbox One morphed together with its own TV screen attached. I love it.

  • What it can and can't do.

This is a beautiful machine from the keyboard to the screen and everything in between.I had no problem getting it booted up and updated to current standards. I was able to install the editing software that I use with ease, though I had to adjust some settings in the .exe because of the 4k panel (not the computers fault) and I was able to work with and render 4k video with very little problem. Though not as perfect as I'd like. 1080 on the other hand is a breeze. The fans on this thing are not super loud unless it's under heavy load. However the sound at top running speed is nothing compared to older systems. If your system is running hot for any reason you can fix that with a push of a button, no, seriously. This button cools down the system so quick it was crazy to watch. The speed on this computer is amazing in almost every department. It definitely falls short in the internet speeds in comparison to some of my other devices. But makes up for it with everything else. The keyboard is nothing short of magical and colorful bliss. Every key stroke is satisfying. One thing that's a bit dissapointing is the mouse pad. It makes a habit of "dropping" the pointer. An odd thing but fixed by just using an external mouse. That said on to the screen. Just so pretty. I did have a problem with mine. One dead/stuck pixel right out of the box, hard to notice on a 4k panel but still a little disappointed, no blame on them though, these things happen, I would have just sent it back for a new one but I desperately needed to get work done and didn't want to wait. Still... Very pretty monitor overall. The speakers or the "Big" speakers. They are very good when you're at the desk within easy listening distance. I would say just about perfect for someone like me. They can actually be a little loud if you aren't careful. Quality of sound is pretty good most of the time. Depends on what you are watching. However fresh out of the box the speakers didn't sound good until I went into the application to turn them on to Movie Mode. Then they kicked. The rest is history. A little disappointed it doesn't have a thunderbolt 3 at this price point but I digress. The SD card reader on this works better than most I've used on a laptop, actually writing things close the the specified mb/s. Works great for me, I will definitely put MSI at the top of my list for my next portable workstation. Disclaimer! I haven't had a chance to play a game on here yet... I bought this to work on, but I will probably install Forza Horizon 3 on this at some point, from what I understand the Core i7 and GTX 1070 should make it no problem to play just about anything! Hope this is helpful

  • Pros and Cons, 30 days of use before this review
Amazon Customer (Jul 2, 2018) on Amazon
Pros:-Plays every game very, very well-Particularly good nic (i.e. same cable, cable modem, etc as my last laptop but I clock ~10% faster mb/s on same downloads and/or games)-Keyboard led's is actually really cool and gets attention-Screen is excellent and crisp-Sound drivers/software give many options to enhance experiences-Battery life is surprisingly good at playing games or watching HD videos-SSD Hard drive space is a huge plus-Keyboard is responsive and works well for administrative type tasks like just typing (see cons for gaining evaluation)-Keyboard shortcuts are convenient, and intuitive actually which is a surprise (i.e. controlling screen brightness, sound, etc)-Camera is shockingly great actually. Normally, even "good" laptop cameras have Frame Rate issues but this one sort of blew my mind.Cons:-Despite Sound software offering so many options, speakers are just not up to par and sound options are better with good headphones-Ridiculous junkware , one in particular is intrusive and sends meta data all day but is a requirement to run the laptop optimally-inability to fix variable CPU clock speeds causes the CPU to lock at 100% for seemingly no reason for extended periods of time-Fans turn on near max or max when cpu is at 100% even if it's not at high temperatures creating unnecessary extra noise-Keyboard is designed to be uncomfortable for gaming in every way so it lights up and looks cool but may be unusable if you're a gamer-Although I haven't been able to 100% confirm, a few days after I cleared junkware I found legit video games newly installed on my laptop to include candy crush. I am a Network Security Engineer and am well aware of how to secure my laptop and trace behavior, I'm pretty sure one of the junk wares downloaded it. After I uninstalled it did not return.-Built in WiFi is antenna has absolute no power. Expect about a 15% signal strength drop from anything that you currently use.Notable (Neither Con or Pro)-3 USB ports with 2 on the side of the power port which creates a situation with a lot of wires on one side. Specifically the right side which is where I have my mouse pad and mouse. It is a bit annoying but I think left handed people may enjoy the space they have on the left side. I prefer them split on sides and pushed toward the back a little to leave space for mouse and mouse pad in tighter spots.-Overclocking options exist but are vague in what is optimal-Extra neat features (certain sound features, keyboard led's, MSI software, etc) takes up small amounts of background resources that seem to add up-Just like all laptops/computers that are new you will spend a lot of time on windows updates and other driver updates-MSI software sends what appears to be meta data to unknown destinations. If you block it in your firewall it tries to spam it till it's successful and costs too many resources. They should have a privacy option for this but it's whatever. If you just allow it but use wifi it doesn't appear to interfere with things like games or streaming but who knows in the long run.I can't give a 5 because I feel for 1800 dollars I should have slightly better speakers, better junkware situations, better ability in managing dynamic CPU clock speeds, and a more comfortable keyboard for gaming. Lastly, i'm not the biggest fan of the meta data thing I'm seeing from the MSI software. Note that Microsoft and almost every major piece of software sends meta data without the ability to opt in or out. In windows you have to create a registry entry to stop it. Overall, I think it's worth the price. I believe the cons aren't that big but they are still cons.I bought this because one of the streamers I follow got it as part of his sponsorship to stream on Facebook.

  • Not bad but without a doubt DISAPPOINTED

I have had this computer since the end of June 2018. I have used it for gaming, Microsoft Office work, photo/video editing, video streaming and general web browsing.Overall, I am just disappointed. It is not like it broke or stopped working. It just doesn't perform like I expected, based on the specs. I had an ultrabook before this that did almost everything this does at much lower specs with a battery life that was 2x at least and weighed significantly less.I'm not playing super high end games or doing heavy photo/video editing. For games - I'm talking mid-level played at 720p mostly (some cases 1080p). In neither case was it at a high FPS. For photo/video editing - think super basic level stuff (nothing advanced). It just hasn't been impressive in how the computer has handled it. It isn't doing poorly but I am pretty sure I could have gotten the same performance for 2/3 the price, less weight and better battery life.
