It seems Google is close to releasing Android 5.0 Lollipop update for at least the Nexus 7 (2012) Wi-Fi as factory images for the tablet have been leaked.

Notably, Motorola has reportedly already beaten Google with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update rollout for the Moto G (Gen 2) ahead of Google's own Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013), and Nexus 10 devices. The Lenovo-owned company might also release the latest Android update for the second generation Moto X soon, as a soak test for the smartphone has already occurred.

The leaked factory images for Nexus 7 (2012) Wi-Fi only were first reported by Android Police, and it claims citing a source that "these images are most likely final." However, we will have to still wait to hear from Google for the official release. Further, the report adds that factory images are available on a Google server giving more credence to the fact that these might be the final ones. Android Police has also provided download link for the Nexus 7 (2012) Wi-Fi factory image from a Google server.

Interestingly, the build of the factory images for the Nexus 7 (2012) Wi-Fi only tablet is LRX21P, similar in naming scheme to the officially rolled out builds LRX21L and LRX21M for the Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus Player respectively. Last month, Google had released updated Android 5.0 Developer Preview images for the Nexus 5 'hammerhead' and Nexus 7 'razor' feature build number 'LPX13D', and were available to download from the company's Android Developer page.

Last week, multiple Nexus 5 owners running the Developer Preview version of Android 5.0 Lollipop had reported a battery draining bug while on Wi-Fi, and this was thought to be the reason for the delayed rollout of the Lollipop factory images and OTA updates for older Nexus devices.

LG, not too far behind, on Sunday announced that it would start rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to its flagship G3 smartphone in Poland this week, with other regions set to follow in the near future.
