Airtel Launches 4G Services in 130 Towns and Cities of Ladakh Region

Airtel has announced the launch of 4G services in Dras, Kargil, and Leh in the Ladakh region, claiming to be the first operator to provide high-speed data in the area. The company says subscribers - both locals and tourists - in 130 towns and cities of the Ladakh region, including Kargil, Leh, and Dras, will now get 4G access with this rollout, which is part of its Project Leap initiative.

Popular spots such as the Kargil War Memorial, Magnetic Hill, Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Thiksey Monastery, Lamayuru Monastery, Moon Land Lamayuru, Sakti towards Pangong Lake, Stok Palace and Hall of Fame are now covered by Airtel 4G, it added.

How to Get Airtel VoLTE

"Airtel's network teams and partners have overcome the challenge of extremely difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions, including sub-zero temperatures, to deploy a state-of-the-art 4G network in the region," it said in a statement.

Commenting on the launch, Ajai Puri, Chief Operating Officer (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel, said, "Having pioneered 4G rollout in India, Airtel has been committed to expanding its high-speed data networks to every corner of the country and contribute to the Government's Digital India vision. As part of Project Leap, we will continue to channel investments towards building a world-class future-ready network that touches every Indian."

Under 'Project Leap', Airtel has committed an investment of over Rs. 60,000 crores and created a nationwide 4G footprint extending from Ladakh to Kanyakumari and from Tawang to Kutch, it says.

The company is also rolling out its 4G VoLTE network in India, with the service now available in Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. It will be launched in other circles gradually.
