BSNL May Maintain and Operate MTNL's Network on Revenue Sharing Basis

State-owned BSNL may maintain and operate the network of MTNL on a revenue sharing basis and a decision in this regard may be taken in 2-3 months.

"We have received a proposal from MTNL CMD to operate and maintain their network. It will be done on a revenue sharing basis and a decision in this regard can be taken in 2-3 months," BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava told PTI.

A committee has been formed to look into the matter and finalise details about the revenue sharing and its implementation, he added.

BSNL operates on pan-India basis, barring Delhi and Mumbai, where the other state-owned firm MTNL provides telecom services.

At an Aaj Tak event in New Delhi, Shrivastava said BSNL has been making efforts to become profitable and it reported an operating profit of Rs. 672 crores for FY15.

He said the company's service revenue increased while there was fall in administrative costs. He said BSNL has taken various customer centric initiatives such as free night calling, free roaming and providing a minimum broadband speed of 2Mbps.
