  • Honor has released the list of smartphones receiving EMUI 8.0 update
  • Honor 8 was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow in 2016

Reversing its original decision, Huawei brand Honor is now apparently set to provide an Android Oreo experience on Honor 8 by porting its EMUI 8.0 skin, which is based on the latest Android version. The smartphone maker has also announced the release of Android 8.0 Oreo-backed EMUI 8.0 for its various models. The latest EMUI update will bring distinct features that may not be in line with all that was debuted with its original launch last October.

According to the list released on the Huawei Club forums, an update to EMUI 8.0 will be rolled out for the Honor 7X, Honor 8, Honor V8, Honor Note 8, Honor 8 Lite, Honor 9, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 8 Pro/ Honor V9, and Honor View 10/ Honor V10. The list notably includes the Honor 8, though the smartphone is not compatible with the new EMUI version due to some "hardware and software limitations", as per Honor's official confirmation that had surfaced via Honor India Twitter handle last week.

In a statement to Android Police, an Honor spokesperson confirmed that the new functions of EMUI 8.0 would be ported to Honor 8 to offer its users some benefits from the latest user experience upgrades. It is still unclear whether Android Oreo will be provided alongside the planned EMUI 8.0 features or just its core functions would come through a software update. Nonetheless, the spokesperson stated that further update details would be released within a week's time.

Launched in October 2016, the Honor 8 was debuted with Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based EMUI 4.1. It received an update to Android 7.0 Nougat-powered EMUI 5.0 in February. The handset features a 5.2-inch full-HD (1920x1080 pixels) LCD panel with 423ppi pixel density. Under the hood, the smartphone has an octa-core Kirin 950 processor clocked at 1.8GHz, paired with 3GB and 4GB RAM options. It has a dual rear camera setup with 12-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensors, alongside a dual-tone LED flash. An 8-megapixel camera sensor is available on the front. Besides, the smartphone packs a 3000mAh battery.
