While we have seen Samsung officially teasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 4, a new report claims to confirm Samsung will roll out the update to last generation's flagship, the Galaxy S4.

Sammobile claims sources close to Samsung have confirmed the Galaxy S4 will be receiving the update early next year, though this timeline may change. Android 5.0 Lollipop will notably be the third major update for the handset, after Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Android 4.4 KitKat.

The report adds that the Exynos processor variant (GT-I9500) of the Galaxy S4 will be the first to receive the update. There is no word on an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Snapdragon 600 processor variant of the handset.

While the exact changes are not yet known, Android 5.0 Lollipop may ship with the new TouchWiz UI that was seen in a recent video featuring the Galaxy S5 running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Notably, Google on Monday started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to Nexus devices.

The Galaxy S5 on the other hand was last month tipped to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in December. The update might take up to a full month to finish rolling out to every handset worldwide. The exact roll-out dates of the update were not mentioned.

Recently, HTC and Sony had also confirmed which of their devices will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. While four of HTC's smartphones will be receiving an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop officially, Sony announced that the entire Xperia Z lineup will be updated to the new OS version.

LG too confirmed the roll-out of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its G3 flagship in Q4 2014 on its Facebook page, adding that the update for the LG G2 will follow.
