Xiaomi, after launching the Redmi 1S successor four weeks ago, the Redmi 2, has already announced a refreshed version of the handset with upgraded RAM and inbuilt storage.

The Chinese firm initially launched the Xiaomi Redmi 2 with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt storage. However, the smartphone maker on the same MIUI forum has now added that the device will sport twice the RAM and and inbuilt storage. These upgrades have also been confirmed by the company CEO, Lei Jun, on Weibo and are likely to be the final changes on the specification list. The company has yet to announce the price of the refreshed variant however.

"Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi today (26 Jan) posted in his Weibo account that, Xiaomi has upgraded Redmi 2 Phone with 2GB RAM and 16GB Internal Storage Memory," mentioned the MIUI forum post.

Xiaomi however, is yet to confirm how it will handle those Chinese users who have already bought the Redmi 2 with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt storage at CNY 699 (roughly Rs. 7,100). The price of the upgraded Redmi 2 is expected to be higher than the previous model, as GSMArena speculates.

Xiaomi Redmi 2's rest of the specification stays the same. The dual-SIM dual-standby device sports a 4.7-inch IPS display with HD (720x1280 ppi) resolution and 312ppi, same as the predecessor Redmi 1S. The smartphone will be layered with company's own MIUI 6 skin over Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 runs on a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (Cortex-A53) and Adreno 306 GPU. As for the camera, the handset includes the same 8-megapixel rear camera along with a 2-megapxiel front-facing camera. The handset's inbuilt storage can also be expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB).

The budget smartphone also features regular connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS besides 4G LTE (TDD/FDD) network support.
