• Great Touch Screen Laptop From Dell - Needs Some Improvement Though

  Bought this laptop during the Great Indian Festival Sale.The New Dell Inspiron 3168 is a Compact Ultra-Portable from Dell. Delivery was as usual prompt from Amazon!At 11 Inches the screen is not too small and the clarity is good. Down-side is that the screen is Glossy and hence is an instant Fingerprint Magnet right out of the box.Comes with a 4 GB RAM and 500 GB SATA Hard Disk. It was slow with the initial 1 week's performance, hence replaced the traditional hard disk to a SSD and the performance comparatively improved. Remember to take a backup of the Laptop as soon as it arrives since there are Medias like the Windows CD/DVD that gets shipped with the box. This will also help in case if you replace the Hard Disk at a later stage.I wanted to add another 4 GB RAM but I figured that there is only 1 Slot for the RAM. Hence you can only buy a 8GB Laptop RAM if you'd like to bump up your RAM. Remember: Opening the Laptop doesn't void warranty but damaging any parts during an unsuccessful part replacement may. So you will have to end up paying for what you damaged.This Laptop surprisingly has no LEDs for Power, or Charging or Hard Disk Activity. There is only 1 LED for the Caps Lock. This is sometimes inconvenient since after a period of inactivity you are unsure if the Laptop is Powered up or if it's Powered off or if it's in Sleep mode by just looking.Once you sit with the Laptop, you can figure out the Power State.This Laptop has no Scroll Lock key in the keyboard due to the form factor. If you have to lock the scroll or unlock it you need to activate the "On Screen Keyboard" and perform the action.The Mouse Track Pad is a single piece of Slab with no groves or channels to differentiate the track pad and the Left / Right Buttons. The advantage is that the track pad is a large area and the disadvantage is that sometimes when you want to hit the left button the cursor moves away as the surface of the button is also touch sensitive. Standard Mouse gestures are possible.The Power Button is on the Bottom Left Corner of the Laptop, right next to the Intel Pentium Label. There are no Power Buttons near the Keyboard as you would've expected in any Laptop. There is a Volume Rocker right next to the Power Button and also on the Keyboard which you can access using the Fn Key. Typical to most Compact Keyboard Layouts from Dell, the Home, Page Up, Page Down & End Buttons are integrated with the Arrow Keys which can again be accessed via the Fn Key / Arrow Key combination.Speakers offer decent performance which is placed above the Keyboard. Single Earphone / Mic Combo along with 3 USB Ports and 1 Full Size HDMI offer good connectivity. Micro SD Card Reader is useful for quick transfer between your Laptop and your mobile devices.The screen goes all the way back and disables the keyboard so that you can use the Laptop as a Tablet.On the Software side of it, the Laptop came built in with MS Office Home & Student Edition, which has MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & One Note. No Outlook client. McAfee suite from Dell which I uninstalled the second day and used only the default built in Anti-Virus and SPAM Protection from Microsoft.1 Year of extra storage in Drop Box from Dell if that interests you.Verdict:It's a great portable with a touch screen at a cost which can be considered a steal. Some minor improvements will make this Laptop a clear winner in the segment.

  It has only 1.6 GHZ processor. Now it starts getting slow. I was very much happy when I bought but now getting angry due to its slow.I am happy with its look wise and build quality(value for money )
