Tesla Speeds Up Model Launches Amid Profit Plunge and Job Cuts

Tesla grapples with a drastic drop in profits, down by over half compared to last year, prompting the EV giant to accelerate the release of new models while slashing thousands of jobs. The $1.13 billion earnings for Q1 2024, significantly lower than the $2.51 billion from a year ago, reflect challenges from reduced demand and competition from cheaper Chinese imports. Despite a 43 percent stock price plunge, Tesla's move to expedite model launches buoyed shares by 12.5 percent in after-hours trading. CEO Elon Musk aims to address investor concerns in a forthcoming conference call.
