With the Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung has arguably done more than any other company to make the clamshell form factor mainstream. It has spent years turning the form factor from a novelty into a phone you can actually use day to day. But after several generations of refinement, it seems that there may be a point approaching where there isn't much left to change. The latest example of this is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is a polished and capable foldable that gets most of the basics right. Its slimmer design, excellent displays, useful FlexWindow features, and mature One UI experience make it one of the better flip phones around. However, the phone feels remarkably close to its predecessor in several important areas. Samsung appears to be taking bigger design risks with its book-style foldables while playing it safer with the Flip. For existing Flip 7 owners, the upgrade feels difficult to justify.
