Facebook rolls out ability to add photos to comments

Facebook has introduced a new feature again. This time, it is an effort to make comments on the social media platform more 'visual'. Facebook has introduced the ability to add photos to comments on Facebook profiles status updates. The feature is not available for pages or events yet.

According to a report by The Next Web, the feature was created by Bob Baldwin and his team at one of Facebook's popular hackathons. The creator shared the announcement on his Facebook profile.

With the new feature, the comment box has a camera button available. As you click on it, Facebook gives you the option to add a photo. The photo then gets uploaded and is inserted a part of the comment. It works similar to the way photos are embedded in messages with the users having the option to add text along with the image. However, the feature for comments is restricted to only one image at the moment.

As of now, the feature has been rolled out for Web. While the mobile applications will get the functionality later, the mobile Web version of Facebook does have the ability to comment with a photo. The option on the mobile version comes as a camera button on the left of the comment box.

Most image formats including JPEG, PNG and TIFF that are supported for regular Facebook image uploads are supported with the comments feature as well. GIF files, as before, remain unsupported.

The roll out is underway so if in case you still don't see the camera icon in your comment box, you should receive the option in the next few days.

The feature has been added ahead of Facebook's event on June 20 where it is expected to introduce video sharing features on Instagram.

Facebook also updated its iOS app recently adding the ability for users to add status update icons, improved privacy controls and other features.
