  • Sony's upgraded PS4, the PS4 Neo will not be at E3 2016.
  • It will target hardcore gamers and 4K enthusiasts.
  • The PS4 Neo will work with a "large majority" of PS4 games.

Sony will not be revealing the PS4 Neo at E3 2016. This was confirmed by Andrew House, President and Global Chief Executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

According to Financial Times, House refused to comment on its price or release date. Though he did state it will not be unveiled at Sony's conference at E3 2016.

"We want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety," he said.

In addition to this he allayed fears regarding game compatibility. Much inline with Giantbomb's report a couple of months ago.

"All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4," he said.

As per gaming site Giantbomb every PS4 game needs to have two separate operating modes.

"Starting in October, every PS4 game is required to ship with both a 'Base Mode' which will run on the currently available PS4 and a 'Neo Mode' for use on the new console," a post on Giantbomb read.

What this means is that we will no longer be subject to games which were below 1080p on the PS4 such as Star Wars Battlefront and Watch Dogs. All games on the PS4K would be at least full HD.

While House did not state how much the PS4 Neo will be sold for, he did hint that the "high-end PS4" would be more expensive than the current $350 version. Right now, the PS4 has an MRP of Rs. 32,990 in India.

"It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4," he said. "We will be selling both [versions]through the life cycle."

House claims it will target hardcore games and those looking with a 4K TV looking for more high-resolution content.
