Twitpic Says It's Been Acquired; Service Will Continue

Twitpic, a third-party Twitter client for uploading photos on Twitter, on Thursday announced that it has been acquired and it will not be shut down as announced. Earlier this month, the company had informed that it will be shutting down the service starting September 25, because of the trademark conflict with Twitter.

The company didn't disclose any details about the acquisition in its tweet, but said, "We're happy to announce we've been acquired and Twitpic will live on! We will post more details as we can disclose them."

Previously, Twitpic Founder, Noah Everett, published a blog explaining how he does not have enough resources to tackle the famous micro-blogging website, resulting in the services' shut down. Everett blamed Twitter for the shutdown of the service.

Notably, Twitpic filed its trademark in 2009. However, the service was contacted by Twitter when the trademark came under "published for opposition" phase. Everett said Twitter had threatened Twitpic it would be "denied access to [the Twitter] API," if it does not back off their mark.

"Twitpic will be shutting down September 25th. You will be able to export all your photos and videos. We'll let everyone know when this feature is live in the next few days," stated Everett.

"This is an unexpected and hard announcement for us to make and we want to lay out what led us to this decision," Everett had added.
