Watch Series 12 introduced Hypertension notifications, powered by watchOS 26

With Apple's ‘Surprise and shine' event set to take place tomorrow, all eyes are on the next-generation iPhone lineup. Meanwhile, the tech is also expected to announce its iconic ‘One More Thing', which could be in the form of the first foldable iPhone, dubbed the iPhone Ultra. However, there will be much more in store, as the Apple Watch and AirPods lineups are also likely to be refreshed. Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 12 and AirPods 5 at the event, too. While details remain under wraps, several features of the smartwatches have surfaced in code found in Apple's latest beta updates.

New Apple Watch Features Discovered

According to findings shared by MacRumors forums member “pdfu,” references in the watchOS 27 and iOS 27 beta code point to several changes coming to the Apple Watch lineup.

A notable discovery is an entirely new app called Readiness. The app appears to be separate from Apple's existing Vitals app, which provides users with an overview of overnight health metrics and other measurements. The watchOS 27 launcher reportedly places the Readiness app on the default Apple Watch Home Screen immediately after the Workout app.

References to the same app were also reportedly found in the Apple Watch companion app on iOS 27, including logic associated with arranging apps on the Home Screen.

The beta code also reportedly points to expanded infrastructure for strength workouts. Apple Watch could gain the ability to store more detailed information for individual sets, including repetition counts, weight, equipment used, body side, and workout duration. This could allow the Apple Watch to offer more granular strength-training records rather than treating an entire workout as a single activity.

Another reported feature relates to the Apple Watch's optical sensing hardware. A new sensor family reportedly appears in the software code under the name “Sunstone4p0”. The references include lower noise coefficients as well as channel selection based on the position and orientation of the watch on the wrist. This could indicate that Apple is preparing a revised optical sensing system for the upcoming Apple Watch.

The beta code also reportedly references a 128GB NAND storage configuration associated with the T8320 chip. This could mean that the Apple Watch Series 12 may offer up to 128GB of storage, compared with 64GB on the current-generation model.

Apple has not confirmed the storage configuration or the other features revealed through the beta code. More details are expected when Apple officially announces the new models tomorrow.
