In an effort to reach out to the tech-savvy young generation, BJP's students wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has launched its own mobile app.

The app has been named 'ABVP' and is available free on Google Play for Android users.

"The aim of the app is too encourage more and more youths, who have now become increasingly tech-savvy and like to carry smartphones, to join ABVP and better connect with the

our members by disseminating information about the group's working," ABVP Delhi State Secretary Saket Bahuguna said.

The app will provide users with all information about ABVP from its latest activities, history and views on various issues to contact information of office-bearers and helpline numbers. The app also features details about the group's various chapters (state units).

Another option available on the app is 'Join ABVP', which, Bahuguna said, will enable interested people to join the organisation without any hassle and waiting for the registration camps.

"ABVP has had its presence on social media but this is a great initiative because people can now be part of ABVP from wherever they want... Moreover, joining ABVP through mobile will be free of cost," Bahuguna said.

"At present we have no online facility for registering members but we hold frequent camps across colleges where a paltry sum of two rupees is taken as fee," he added.

The 65-year-old students organisation had been toying with the idea of having such an app for nearly a year and consolidated the idea during the recent general elections which witnessed increased use of mobile apps and social media, Bahuguna said.

The ABVP is hopeful that, with the vacations nearing an end and new sessions in colleges across the country beginning soon, the app will be a big hit among the students. The app was officially launched on July 17 in Mumbai.
