  • Microsoft also announced a new features for OneDrive mobile apps
  • Offline Folders are now available on Android devices to Office 365

Microsoft made a slew of announcements at its annual Build developers conference in Seattle on Thursday. A big Windows 10 update is headed your way in the form of Fall Creators Update with features like Timeline, Pick Up Where You Left Off, Cloud-aware Clipboard, and OneDrive Files On-Demand.

OneDrive's new headline feature means your files will stay on the cloud and will be pulled to your local device only when needed. The big advantage here is that even the files on the cloud appear as 'regular' files to all applications. Check out details of how this feature will work.

The company has also announced a couple of new features for OneDrive mobile apps, by adding support for Offline Folders, and introducing an iMessage app that will let you easily share documents saved on OneDrive with your contacts.

"OneDrive Offline Folders lets you save folders to your mobile device and open them when you don't have an Internet connection. Changes made by other users to the files while you're offline will automatically be updated when you have an Internet connection again," Jeff Teper, corporate vice president for the Office, OneDrive and SharePoint teams, wrote in a blog post.

OneDrive Offline Folders are now available on Android devices to Office 365 Personal and Home subscribers and OneDrive business accounts, and are expected to roll out to iOS users in the "next few months".

Separately, OneDrive for iMessage will let you easily share an entire OneDrive folder or only a file without leaving your iMessage conversation. It also enables the ability to preview documents and photos shared via iMessage.
