Asus F556UA-AS54 User Reviews and Ratings

Bought and returned the F555LA. While it was a great value, I was surprised at the slow down and freezing I experienced. I've never had better than an i3 processor, so again, I don't think my sights were set too high. That's what surprised me about my limited time transferring music and photos from an external drive to the F555.Anyhow, as it turned out, going a step up from the F555 to the next -- overwhelmingly best value -- still landed at ASUS, and the F556UA.I looked at all laptops, and decided to upgrade, I would want the following filters applied: most current version of an i5 chip, 1080p resolution, and an SSD hard drive. Only two other computers out of all on the market met these specs (while maintaining the 15.6" size) -- but the hard drive space on this (F556) was double the specs on the only other two laptops who were still standing while applying the filter of size, resolution, SSD drive, and a current i5 chip.Conclusion: Winner. No brainer. Best value for a high-performance Windows 10 laptop on the whole internet.While transferring roughly 80-100GB of music, pictures, and video from my external drive to the F556, the laptop experienced zero slowdown, and I could do literally anything software wise (browse the web, dink around, and update drivers) without any indication my computer was also performing, at least by my standard usage, the most heavy-lifting I'm bound to do.The only mystery since this computer is too new for in-depth reviews, is if it's possible to upgrade the RAM beyond 8GB. A scan on crucial.com said the max for this laptop was 12GB -- but I opened the RAM door, and there was no free slot. Perhaps the Samsung RAM stick that was behind the door is only one half of the sticks inside, and If it's a 4GB, it could be replaced with an 8GB stick to make 12GB. This is purely speculation. However, while my laptop was doing the big transfer mentioned above, I monitored my performance with an expanded view in task manager -- the RAM used during the big file copy/transfer never topped 3GB, so if that's the most sweating my laptop ever does, there's probably no reason to want more than 8GB.PS: Compared to the F555LA, this has a USB-C port and one USB 3.0 (compared to two USB 3.0 and no USB-C). I see this as somewhat of a future-proof upgrade over the F555 that I didn't even consider as I'd never heard of USB-C, but nevertheless consider this an overlooked upgrade, especially since I primarily use an iPad -- so the fast file transfer speed of USB-C might come in handy.

Fantastic laptop for the price. (I bought it new from Amazon, not third party, for $549)I was looking for a good high powered laptop or tablet to use to get stuff done when i head out of the house. I have a desktop at home.Pros: 8 gb ram, SSD harddrive, and Intel I5 processor, sub $600. (I couldn't find anything else on the market near this performance with price.) Also has a USB C type 3 port, which is great for keeping up with new devices.Cons: Speaker is not very loud, and graphics card probably isn't the best on the market (although it's great enough for HD movies etc.)Overall, amazing product, great performance,

The laptop is very good looking and thin with a large screen and although it looks very elegant, when you actually handle the laptop you can tell it's made out of plastic rather than anything sturdier so I worry about it holding up over time. Resolution is fantastic when watching movies. The ports are all secure and firm when used. The touchpad is very responsive and operations are performed quickly. Battery life is pretty decent and doesn't have an excessive charge time when low. Overall this is an excellent value and I highly recommend it for anyone not needing or wanting to spend big bucks for a higher end brand.

I really like that this laptop comes with a DRW drive. A lot of the newer laptops don't, and it's frustrating to find one that does. This laptop is very sleek looking, which I like, but it does feel like it's made out of lower quality plastic, and not metal. I wouldn't say it was flimsy, but I have another laptop that is a little more sturdier then this one. It is very fast, and the screen is very clear. It is lighter then my other laptops that I have, but I am still very careful with this one.The batter life on this is very good, it lasts a long time, and the keyboard is a little awkward, but not to the point that it really bothers me. It's very quick to load software, and it plays videos very well. I do a lot of video editing, and this laptop is great for media files. The DRW drive is quick too. I think this laptop is good for the price, and it is fast, but I think that they could improve on the materials that they use with this, and it would be perfect.

Happy with it so far, love the speed of the ssd hard drive only way to go. Now just need to learn windows 10...

So far so good. Does what I need it to do (mostly surfing, email, Netflix) Solid battery life, and it charges quickly. Mine arrived with no bloatware which was an added bonus.

It is everything as advertised.

Excellent laptop so far. Very happy as this PC does everything I need. I use it for business (contracts, MS Word, web surfing, and it is just what I was looking for. This machine is quiet with its SSD and fast. The laptop arrived with no problems or issues. Everything works with no dead or stuck pixels. Also unlike so many others my laptop was delivered with no bloatware! I was all set to do a fresh install of windows to remove bloatware but didn't need too. As others have said the display is not great but certainly good enough for my needs. I used to game and do some 3D modeling with my previous laptops so I typically bought gaming machines for the discreet graphics cards and higher quality LCD/LED screens. This laptop does not need to be graphics intense and with typical word processing and web surfing it works great. Color and sharpness are again more than adequate. You also need to stay closer to viewing the screen for best results (off axis is not great) but this is no problem in my normal usage. I am completely happy with this purchase and thought the Amazon price of five hundred forty nine dollars was excellent.

Staff love them, even though they're evil Windows 10.Got them to use off side with GoToMyPC (Citrix).

Nice computer, doesn't get too hot and is pretty fast for a laptop in this price range. I recommend it

I love this laptop. Great speed, nice overall for the money. One thing I dislike is how small the shift key is on the right. Otherwise, it's great so far.

Was reluctant to get a PC but needed it for school. I have been pleasantly surprised with ease of use. It quick and is a great value !

No Bulls*** software installed which is great. Pretty fast so far. Would recommend for everything short of gaming or intensive computing. 5/5 what I wanted.

So far, so good, as I continue to become familiar with this laptop. My biggest concern is about Windows 10 which I don't especially like so far. I am sure the Asus itself is just fine.

I really like this computer so far, and like others stated it is very fast. The SSD drive is pretty good sized and I feel you get a lot for this price. The only bad thing is that it doesn't have a back-lit keyboard, and there are no caps lock indicator lights. It is very light so you could easily transport it, and when it is charged it lasts forever.

I hoped the integrated GPU would be better, besides that everything is great.

Worth to pay..

Sleek, lightweight, durable. I have no complaints. I read people saying that the screen isn't optimal but I disagree. Unless you for some reason want to watch a movie from the side of the screen, it is perfect. The matte finish makes everything clearer and the 1080 resolution makes everything enjoyable to watch. Thank you, ASUS, for a cheap yet wonderful product! 10/10 would recommend.
