  • Overwatch will not be coming to the Mac
  • This is due to 'technological decisions' taken by Apple
  • It is the only Blizzard game not on the Mac

Overwatch is the first game from Blizzard to hit consoles the same time it was available on Windows PC. It's also the only game from the company that isn't on the Mac. And it seems that Overwatch won't be coming on Apple's line of computers at all.

“We have no plans of giving this game on the Mac. There are several technology decisions that Apple has made that has made it a little difficult for us to release Overwatch in the way we want it to be consumed, and that is why we haven’t pursued it," said Tim Ford, Lead Engineer on Overwatch at Blizzard to Gadgets 360 on the sidelines of BlizzCon 2017.

Unfortunately, Ford refused to elaborate on his comments when pressed. His remarks are interesting, especially when you consider Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan had reportedly said earlier that the company was "open-minded" about bringing the game to the Mac.

"I will not say that it's definite...that we will never be on Mac. We are open minded to it, we just need the priorities of our development process to line up with the capabilities of the platform in order for it to become a reality," Kaplan said in response to a user query back in May 2017.

Nonetheless, we've requested Apple for comment and will update this story if we hear from the company.

This wasn't the only piece of news regarding Overwatch out of BlizzCon 2017. The game is getting a new hero in Moira as well as a new map called BlizzWorld. We also spoke to Ford at length about the technical side of bringing Overwatch to life.

Disclosure: Blizzard sponsored the correspondent's flights and hotel for BlizzCon 2017.
