Not content with Assassin's Creed being a yearly series, Ubisoft has announced the Assassin's Creed Chronicles trilogy. These are bite-sized, digital download only adventures of three famous assassins from the Assassin's Creed universe. The first adventure will take place in China and will follow up with India and Russia respectively.

While Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China was common knowledge for awhile now, it's good to know that it finally has a release date. On April 22, You'll be able to step into the shoes of legendary assassin Shao Jun in a unique brush painting styled version of China during the Ming Dynasty.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India will have you as Arbaaz Mir (from Assassin's Creed Brahman), an assassin amidst the Sikh Empire as it prepares for war. It sports a fresh look inspired by Sikh paintings.

"We took influence from lithographs. Colour was a key component; we boosted that, and we mixed some Sikh-influenced patterns into the world," said Glenn Brace, Assassin's Creed Chronicles' Art Director on Ubisoft's blog.

Meanwhile Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia has you as Nikolai Orelov (of Assassin's Creed: The Fall and The Chain) in post-revolutionary Russia, circa 1918. The look of this instalment is heavily influenced by the propaganda art style of the era.

Though there's no release date for the India and Russia chapters, the trilogy should be complete by fall. Ubisoft claims you can play them in any order, but that there's a solid narrative pay-off for finishing all of them.

"There is a narrative link" between the three games, said Xavier Penin, Lead Game Designer at Ubisoft Partners on the company's blog. "As [the games] have to be independent, it's not huge. It's not central, but it's there, especially for the fans. And if you finish Russia, and you've played the other two, there's a special ending that's really interesting for the fans and ties the Chronicles together."
