Toshiba on Wednesday, at the onset of IFA 2015 trade show, launched its Windows 10-based Satellite Radius 12 convertible laptop. The Satellite Radius 12 will be debuting in the US starting Q4 of this year. The company has not yet revealed the price of the laptop but has given information on its features.

The Toshiba Satellite Radius 12 features a 12.5-inch display that would arrive either in full-HD resolution or 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution options, along with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The display supports wide-gamut RGB colour space reproduction. The company claims that the laptop is "world's first 12.5-inch Ultra HD 4K convertible" laptop. It also packs Intel's latest Skylake processors with options up to Core i7 processor and RAM that can be configured up to 8GB. It also features a USB Type-C port.

The laptop display is attached with a hinge, letting users view the display in different modes - laptop, tablet, tabletop, presentation, and audience. One of the key features of the convertible laptop is the inclusion of Microsoft's Windows Hello feature, which comes as a part of Windows 10. The feature lets users log in to the device with their face and fingerprint.

What's interesting here is that the feature works without the Intel RealSense 3D camera. Toshiba in its Satellite Radius 12 has installed its own IR HD camera to complement Windows Hello. The laptop keyboard features Toshiba's precision trackpad as well, for improved scrolling experience.

Although the firm has not yet revealed the price of the convertible laptop, the features in the device is likely to make it expensive. Nonetheless, it is always good to see OEMs packing some powerful specs inside a smaller 12-inch or 13-inch laptop. Until now, we saw this kind of setup only in full-sized laptops.
