Last month, Microsoft announced that the company has partnered with companies like Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and HP to make affordable VR headsets that will launch alongside the Windows 10 Creators Update in Spring 2017. These VR headsets will be powered by company's own VR platform Holographic UI that was showcased by the company at its Surface event. Now, the minimum specifications required by Windows PCs to support this VR platform have seemingly been revealed.

The latest preview build of Windows 10 comes with a "Windows Holographic First Run" application that performs a check to find out whether user's PC is capable enough to support the VR platform, as pointed out by The Verge. As it turns out, the minimum requirements necessary to support Windows Holographic are not as demanding as one might think, at least in the preview build.

In terms of memory, the minimum requirement to support the VR platform is 4GB of RAM. User's Windows 10 PC is required to have a USB 3.0 port as well as a graphic card that supports DirectX 12. The CPU on the machine is further required to have 4 or more cores to support Microsoft's VR platform.

Notably, the company says, "You're all set. Your set up is good to play most experiences." This effectively means that meeting these specification requirements might still not be enough to experience all VR experiences.

Even though the Windows Holographic First Run compatibility checker application is available in the latest preview builds, the full holographic shell is not yet available to run on devices like HTC's Vive, The Verge said in its report.

The Redmond-based company is planning to hold two WinHEC events in December in order to reveal its virtual reality (VR) headset plans for Windows 10. Currently, it seems like we will have to wait till the events for the company to explain its strategy in the field going ahead.
