Xiaomi Mi 9 vs OnePlus 6T: Price, Specifications Compared

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 9 smartphone in China, and the flagship sees a waterdrop-shaped notch, a triple rear camera setup along with a 48-megapixel sensor and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone was launched alongside the Mi 9 Transparent Edition and the Mi 9 SE models, and its price starts at CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 31,800). The phone will compete with the OnePlus 6T which also sports a waterdrop-shaped notch, but comes with a dual rear camera setup at the back.

Aside from the design differences, the Xiaomi Mi 9 and the OnePlus 6T come with other disparities in hardware. We pit them against each other to see which one fares better on paper.

Xiaomi Mi 9 is priced in China at CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 31,800) for the 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant, while the 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage option comes at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 34,900). Xiaomi also launched the Xiaomi Mi 9 Transparent Edition with a price tag of CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 42,300). Furthermore, the Mi 9 SE is priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 21,200) for the 64GB storage variant, whereas the Mi 9 SE 128GB storage option comes at CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs. 24,350).

The OnePlus 6T price in India starts at Rs. 37,999 for the 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage model, which is only available in a Mirror Black colour variant. The 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage model on the other hand is available in both Midnight Black, Thunder Purple, and Mirror Black colour variants, and has been priced at Rs. 41,999. Finally, the 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage model is available only in a Midnight Black colour variant, priced at Rs. 45,999. In December, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition was also launched, and the price in India for this variant is set at Rs. 50,999 for the 10GB RAM/ 256GB storage configuration.

The phones also come with hardware and software disparities, like the OnePlus 6T runs on Android Pie-based Oxygen OS, while the Mi 9 runs on Android Pie-based MIUI 10. Both the phones support dual-SIM slots, and offer Bluetooth v.5 connectivity. The Mi 9 features a 6.39-inch full-HD+ Samsung AMOLED display along with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, and waterdrop-style notch. The OnePlus 6T, on the other hand, sports a 6.41-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) Optic AMOLED panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a waterdrop-style notch as well. The Mi 9 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC, and the OnePlus 6T is powered by the now-dated Snapdragon 845 SoC.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 has a triple rear camera setup that houses a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor with 1.0-micron pixel size and an f/2.2 lens. The primary sensor also supports four-in-one pixel (12-megapixel effective pixels). There is also a 16-megapixel Sony IMX481 secondary sensor along with a combination of ultra-wide and macro lens having an f/2.2 lens and a field-of-view (FoV) of 117 degrees. The phone also has a 12-megapixel tertiary sensor along with an f/2.2 telephoto lens. For selfies, there is a 20-megapixel selfie camera at the front.

The OnePlus 6T has a dual rear camera setup comprising a primary 16-megapixel Sony IMX519 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and 1.22-micron pixels, paired with a secondary 20-megapixel Sony IMX376K sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and 1-micron pixels. It can shoot 4K video at 60fps, Super Slow Motion Video (1080p at 240fps and 720p at 480fps). A dual-LED flash accompanies the rear setup, while there is also OIS and EIS available. The front camera on the OnePlus 6T features a 16-megapixel Sony IMX371 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 1-micron pixels. The front camera also supports EIS, and can recording 1080p video at 30fps and 720p video at 30fps.

The OnePlus 6T packs a 3,700mAh battery, while the Mi 9 packs a smaller 3,300mAh battery. Because of the smaller battery size, the Mi 9 is slimmer and lighter than the OnePlus 6T. The Mi 9 measures 157.50x74.67x7.61mm, while the OnePlus 6T measures 157.50x74.80x8.20mm. The Mi 9 weighs 173 grams while the OnePlus 6T weighs 185 grams.
