Asus is widely expected to announce the third-generation of the ZenFone smartphones at its Computex 2016 event on May 31. Ahead of the launch, Asus CEO Jerry Shen has shared some details of the upcoming ZenFone 3 smartphone series saying that it will launch in June and target the mid-range segment.

Shen added that this year 90 percent of the ZenFone 3 smartphones will have a Qualcomm processor while 10 percent devices will pack MediaTek processor. He further claimed that the ZenFone 3 devices will be available in six countries in August.

Shen also revealed plans for a Max model under the ZenFone 3 range and added that the ZenFone 3 Max will account for nearly two-thirds of total ZenFone 3 shipments. Some of the other ZenFone 3 variants teased by Shen include the ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3.

Talking about competition, Shen told Digitimes that Asus will compete with Huawei and Oppo in the Chinese market. The publication adds that Asus saw its smartphone revenue increasing over 40 percent on year in the Q1 2016 that was primarily because of strong sales in Southeast Asia, Brazil, Russia, and Europe.

Earlier, ZenFone 3 smartphones codenamed Z010DD and Z012D were spotted in benchmark listings in January. The former was seen featuring a 5.9-inch HD display; a 12-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera; an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC; 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of inbuilt storage, while the latter featured a 5.5-inch full-HD display; a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC; 3GB of RAM; and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The alleged ZenFone 3 and the ZenFone 3 Deluxe were also leaked in images purportedly showing the design of the handsets.
