Highlights
  • Earlier leaks suggested phone will pack 6GB of RAM
  • The phone is tipped to come with UFS 2.1 flash storage
  • Company expected to launch the phone in April

For Samsung, the Galaxy S8 is probably its most important smartphone. The burden of expectations is huge on the Samsung Galaxy S8, the South Korean titan's first flagship smartphone since the Galaxy Note 7, whose launch - literally - went up in flames. However, if recent rumours regarding the alleged Samsung Galaxy S8 are anything to go by, the company might have an ace up its sleeve.

The latest Samsung Galaxy S8 rumour suggests that the smartphone may pack 8GB of RAM. A separate report says that the company is working on a big-screen version of the smartphone - called the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus - featuring a 6-inch display. The Galaxy S8 Plus model may fill the gap between the flagship Galaxy S series and the flagship phablet Galaxy Note series.

Ice Universe, a well-known tipster for Samsung phones, has suggested that Samsung Galaxy S8 will pack 8GB of RAM (made using Samsung's own 10nm fabrication technology), as per a report by MySmartPrice. Ice Universe has also suggested that Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with the company's UFS 2.1 flash storage. Earlier leaks suggested that the phone might be coming with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

In the meanwhile, another leak points to a new model from Samsung that will fit between the Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Note series, called the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. It is said to sport a 6-inch Super AMOLED display, compared to the 5-inch Super AMOLED display on the Samsung Galaxy S8, per a report by a South Korean publication (via 9to5Google).

The increase in display size might not make the device substantially bigger as Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has been tipped to come with very thin bezels. The increase in display size, if it happens, wouldn't come as a surprise from the company due to the gap left in the phablet category from the recall of Galaxy Note 7. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus smartphone is said to launch alongside the Galaxy S8 that as we said is anticipated to sport a 5-inch display.

A recent report claimed that Samsung has pushed back the launch of its alleged Galaxy S8 smartphone back to April 2017 from February 2017 earlier in order to gain confidence from consumers before making it available worldwide.

Also recently, there were rumours of Samsung planning to introduce something called Beast Mode with the Galaxy S8. The upcoming feature was spotted in a trademark application from Europe, though not much else is known about it at this point. It may somehow leverage the performance of the top-end SoC (expected to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835), apart from the massive 8GB of RAM.

As these are all rumours, we will have to wait for an official word from the company for any confirmation about the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
