Google has announced the updated version of its Gmail app for Android, adding the save to Google Drive feature, improved RTL (right-to-left) language support, spam explanations and more.

The search giant announced the update on Gmail's Google+ page, and said, "Today's update to Gmail on Android brings a number of new features. These features will be rolling out over the next few days." The Gmail app update for Android had not yet reached Google Play India at the time of writing.

The new Gmail app update for Android brings the Save to Drive option, which will allow users' to download attachments to the cloud directly, instead of a specific desktop, smartphone or tablet. In addition, the new feature will also allow users to access the attachments saved to Google Drive from anywhere.

The update also adds spam explanations, which will appear at the top of every spam mail. The Gmail app for Android now sports improved RTL (right-to-left) features for users' accessing the app in Arabic, Hebrew or Persian languages. The update finally also brings faster access to the side navigation menu, which can now be swiped from the left edge to access accounts and labels.

Earlier this month, the Gmail app for Android reached a massive 1 billion download milestone on Google Play, the first app to do so. To be specific however, the 1 billion downloads figure displayed on Google Play for the Android app of Gmail was actually a tally of total unique accounts or installs, and not the total number of devices or users that downloaded the app.
