Microsoft has announced support for add-ins from third-party applications in its Outlook email app for iOS. The first lineup of apps that are getting the support from Outlook are Evernote, Giphy, Nimble, Trello, and Spreadsheet. Additionally, the Redmond-based company has also made its own add-ins available for the Outlook app in the form of Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Translator. Microsoft says that the support for Outlook add-ins will soon be coming to Android as well.

Notably, the support for add-ins was already available for users on Web, Windows, and Mac. The add-ins for Outlook, built using standard HTML and JavaScript, can be used by developers to extend their services to the users from right within the app. The company has also shared a simple set of instructions for developers who are interested in extending their services through company's email client.

The Outlook for iOS add-ins can be accessed using an icon beside the "view more" option while reading any mail. "With the Trello add-in for Outlook, you can turn your email into actionable items, keep track of your projects and make sure important emails never fall through the cracks," the company said in its blog post. After enabling the Trello add-in, users simply have to click the Add card to Trello action to associate any incoming email with an existing board, it added.

Outlook for iOS users can opt to reply to mails through GIFs using the Giphy add-in as well. Microsoft's Translator add-in allows users to read any mail in the language of their choice. On the other hand, the Dynamics 365 add-in "brings together business applications with the best of Microsoft-in productivity, collaboration, intelligence and platform-to give businesses the right set of tools to grow, evolve and transform, the company said.

Considering that the new Outlook for iOS add-ins will provide more productivity options to the email client, this can definitely be seen as a welcome move from Microsoft. We will have to just wait and see how developers are able to make full use of this new support and provide users with more options via email client on their mobile apps.
