About Thuramukham Movie (2023)

The infamous and rather odd ‘chappa’ system that was practiced at the Mattancherry harbour in Cochin during the 40s and 50s had dock bosses throw metal coins into a crowd of labourers, who would then hustle to pick one in order to win work for the day. The struggles of the workers finally led to protests that resulted in a police firing that killed three labourers. The film shows the story from two opposing sides — that of the bosses and the workers.
